Jillian used to say the rugs don’t match the carpet (or the throw rug if you laser.) I think she meant the drapes don’t match the carpet. I though of this when I looked this photo of Sandra’s orange cast. We have been trying to match it to her outfits but sometimes a girl just has to wear a pink skirt.
I had a little bit of Mommy guilt last night when I went out to karaoke. She gave me a look like…you bring me to this country then you go out to karaoke? Anyway I didn’t sing, or stay long. But every once in a while Mama needs a margarita.
My Senorita bonita will be up soon. I will say ”Buenos Dias Sandrarita Playa Chica.” And she will say “salchicha?” Which means hot dog. I made the mistake of giving her one the other day. Now it’s all she wants. Now I’m sending her home filled with nitrates…great.
And for those of you who laughed at my bad Spanish jello/hielo moment (see previous blog for embarassing details) another Mending Kids host dad Savage Holland (he’s a way famous director and way too nice to be named Savage) once offered a child ojos instead of huevos for breakfast. The child cried because apparently she didn’t want eyes for breakfast.
I could say something here about eyes bleeding but I have probably said enough (perhaps too much?) on that subject. And speaking of my old show. Sad to say I hear more changes are a coming….
But the question I have, why didn’t you sing. Not enough margaritas? Enjoy your time with Sandra. Its a great thing that you are doing!
You really are great and deserve a Margarita every now and again. I’m sure they have chemical free hot dogs at whole foods. I think the pink skirt and orange cast go together beautifully. As far as your former employer how much worse can it get? Seems pretty bad now.
morning Dorothy, reading your blog makes my day. How sad to think of this pretty little girl leaving. She will miss you as well and I believe she will miss Southern Calif. By the way I love karaoke too. Didn’t know you liked to sing.
PS: Dorothy they have Nitrate free hot dogs, did you know? see you in your next blog,
Hugs
i say your doing a great job and it is a beautiful blessing from an all loving God who put you two together!!! And your blogs are wonderful!!!
Its so sad what they did to my morning show. First you now Jill. Who’s the smarta$$ that thought this was a good idea? Well, GDLA’s days are numbered. Y’all had too many loyal viewers that Im sure will be jumping ship. ME INCLUDED. BTW…Love the blog!!! Miss u!!
Haha! I’m still laughing! My mom was from Norway and she used to thrash the english language! She’d say things like “that’s all in the material!”
Haaaahahaha!! After offering a child ojos for breakfast, he certainly does deserve the name Savage!! (totally kidding… Just too good to pass up!)
No guilt necessary- moms need breaks- ‘nuf said. This momma will be taking a sushi and Riesling night out as soon as I have a brave enough soul willing to watch my 3 kiddos… Although with a 4 week old, sleep and a shower seem like the best and most practical break I could take;)
Sad about the show….too many changes…. Can’t bring myself to watch… Sad Jillian doesn’t even get a farewell… Although, maybe she didn’t want one…. Either way, I feel like I’ve been broken up with by the show- irreconcilable differences, I suppose.
Ps- Costco sells bison dogs!! They are super tasty, and NO NITRATES!!!:) worth a try….
Dorothy,
As much as I love Jill, I stopped watcing when I saw your final show. I am so happy your blogging because I can keep up with you. I love your husbands reports on CBS and I love anything you do. I knew I liked you before but when you became part of mending kids my respect for you soared. I would love to get involved in it but now sure how. I will ook up on the internet to see. To be totally honest I really didn’t like Jill till she met Grant and had her kids and then she became human to me. Sorry just being honest. Now I like her. I wonder what they told her you make eyes bleed , I wonder what she does? How is your little angel doing? When she has her 2nd surgery will she stay with you? What about her parents and what kind of life she has back in her country? All the best to you!
Rhonda
Dorothy , I loved the connection you had with steve & jill. The show will never be the same without the three of you together. Your last day on the show was my last day as a viewer, I admit I cried right along with you. I even sent you a tweet asking to continue with ” nash updates ”
Now you have sandra , I know she and her family will be eternally great full for what you have done for her. When she goes home for good please keep in touch with her. You are one of Gods angels , you are caring and truly committed to helping children. You deserve a round of applause for your kindness and dedication. Your husband and son are proud of you I’m sure because I know I am proud of you without even being a friend or relative. Keep up the good work, please blog often so we your fans can keep in touch with you.
Anita

These are great blogs, they always make me smile. You might try Hebrew National hotdogs, I think they are made with very little nitrates. Even Oscar Mayer makes a “Selects Premium” have very little nitrates in them.
I think you are going to have a real hard time letting this child return home. Perhaps the solution would be to rotate “Mending Kids” through you home. As one child leaves, another arrives? You can become the underground railroad for healing children.
