We were trying to raise money for a good cause. You know us damn Good News Girls. When Wendy Burch (although she swears it was Ana Garcia) suggests I give some bidder a lap dance. There ARE a few things I won’t do for charity. Even without the sexual innuendo we raised over a half million for The Downtown Women’s Center. It’s a facility for homeless woman that is really more like a home.
I was just happy to get there with a bit of makeup on. It was an emotional day. First I got a laser. Not emotional unless you count the joy of losing a few sunspots. Thank you Nurse Jamie. Only in LA do you stop for spot removal on the way to a child’s life changing moment. Shallow? Maybe. But also efficient.
Sandra was (see smile)
ready to lose the cast and see those fingers.
David had been making a buzz saw sound to make her laugh for a week. She gave me a weak smile when they actually started with the saw. When she saw her fingers she burst into tears. And not happy ones. She thought they were ugly. They are bloody and brusied and messy but I think they are beautiful. They are fingers. In time her hand will look like the one I am typing with. In time she will understand this. In the moment… a lollipop helped. Thank God I didn’t eat ALL her lollipops.
I felt badly that I had to go out last night. But by the time I left Sandra was getting used to her new hands. And I had promised to lend a hand to the homeless. Man I sound like a much nicer person than I am…
Hi Dorothy, You have a good Blog that has a way of enlightening us to your special background. You always shared your life on GDLA so we knew what you were up to in your professional & private life. Sandra is blessed to have a nice person like you in her life. You are doing God’s work & he will reward you later. Your Christian Faith will grow with this experience. Remember where your talents come from & PTL everyday. I pray for you everyday in this crazy world. We both have a lot to learn & a lot to give. Good thing God gives us eternity, so we can experience all his blessings that we only dreamed about here. You are a Beautiful woman just as you are, you are a true natural beauty. But I know makeup makes you feel good. I got to say You look very nice when you get all dressed up. Next blog could be an update on construction on church. it was nice blogging with you, sincerely 1 of your many admirers.

Hey Dorothy!
You are doing a good dose of ying and yang in your life. Plus, there are plenty of people that do only the “shallow”, so at least, you’re doing MORE than your part.
Glad Sandra is finding her smile!
Have a nice weekend!!
Kids get very wrapped up in “the now”. Now – her fingers look a mess to her. But soon enough after they heal – her new “the now” will be joy. The trick is getting through to the next phase. She’ll be telling the story of staying with you and everything that happened to her for the rest of her life. This is just a small chapter in a bigger story.
Oh I never thought about the appearance of her fingers, yikes . I am glad she was more comfortable later, what a great door you opened for her. Keep it up!
You should make a photo book of comments for her to take back home to show friends and family that might not have computers. It can be her treasure book. If you arent crafty they have them on shutterfly, Walgreens etc. You upload the picture and she or you can make the comments. I am sure someone could help you with the translations. Its fun an and awesome keepsake for her to take home.
