Sandra’s bandages come off today. When the cast came off she said her hand was ugly. I’m trying to explain healing takes time. And I know this first hand. Anyway…
Sandra ”You just got fingers (different from giving the finger). Where are you going to go?”
We went to Disneyland. Land of Princesses and what she calls Montanas rusas (roller coasters). It’s a Mending Kids tradition to take the kids to Disneyland after surgery. When parents put their child on a plane with a strangers (the trust they put in us is extraordinary) they beg you to take the child to Disneyland. It’s often the only thing they know about America. Sandra didn’t know what Disneyland was…but she did want to find Nemo.We found him.
We took goofy photos. We took photos with Goofy.
We ate all sorts of crap. And after all the barfing in my car, no upchuck. Maybe it is the happiest place on Earth.
My old station is not the happiest place on Earth. Jean Martirez is now gone. That’s 3 women in 4 months. I’m seeing Jean tomorrow. I will give her my go to Vegas advice. That’s what I did when I got Good Day LA-ed. Vegas…or Disneyland.
And when Sandra’s bandages come off (any minute now) I hope she will be in the happiest place on Earth. Her own skin.
You know, it’s beginning to look like age discrimination. 3 longtime female anchors in 4 months all being replaced by younger women?
It’s not like any of you were replaced in favor of someone who is more experienced.
But, if you pursued it, you’d all become pariahs.
So who took over the company and do U talk to Steve at all Dorothy? Are you guys good with each other? I notice he didn’t say much or is saying much about what’s going on in that show. U take care Dorothy and hope to see U soon on anothe news show here in LA.
What the heck is happening with that station? I don’t even want to watch it anymore. What are they doing?????? Miss you guys.
This story warmed my heart. God bless you and Sandra. You both are beautiful inside and out. Sandra que Dios te bendiga y que siempre te tenga en sus manos.
Truy miss you on GDLA, just not the same…. hardly watch anymore. Sooo much better with you there….
Glad you and Sandra had a good time at Disneyland. She is a lucky girl to have had you as foster Mom.
Such a shame to know that Jean got sacked. I was thinking discrimination as well.
You and Jean have a great time tomorrow. Is she going to be on ktla with Sam? Jillian will be on Monday.
So glad to see you enjoying your time with Sandra…. Hope everything turns out great when they remove her bandages. So sad what is happening at GDLA. I can’t beleive they have gotten rid of you wonderful ladies. I’m sure you will all find better opportinities .
Dorothy – Please give Jean a big hug from all her fans when you see her. I’ve been watching her and Tony in the mornings since the late 90s, so it’s a very sad time – they became part of the routine every day, and now that’s gone. Many wishes sent her way for good health and happiness.
Well first things first Dorothy. I knew Jean was gone when I asked so many times where she was and no reply except she was sleeping in. Her and Tony were the first two people I saw every morning. I miss her and I will now tweet her a msg. telling her so. I am so sad for all this crap they’re pulling BUT can’t really do anything about it. We worked pretty darn hard when you were let go but to no avail. I wish her the best.
I am so happy for Sandra getting to go to her dream place and finding Nemo. Dorothy can she move her fingers?
Ok gotta run Dot, love yah mucho,
I do enjoy your blogs immensly. I can honestly say, I don’t miss you every morning anymore. I know you’re off making a difference in what really matters. You were destined for so much more. You”ve inspired me to not sweat the small stuff anymore, a job’s a job, but we can do better in our lives and those of others, as you’ve clearly shown us. Keep on blogging!
I was so so sad when you left. Honestly you all were part of my family. Even after my mom passed away last year I swear I would lie in bed and watch you all. I was so sad the day you left and also Jillian ( not as much) but now Jean? What is going on? I’m just so happy you are good
Hi Dorothy~
I don’t tweet so I can’t send Jean a message. Please tell her that there are so many of us who thought the world of her. I will miss her and the show will miss her quick wit, smart comments and her “real” way of being.
I kicked and screamed when you were so unceremoniously dissmissed from the show you gave so much to and the show has gone down hill since. Now one by one they are dismissing all the women and a couple of the men for cheaper versions of the entertaining, experienced people we loved so much. It’s tragic what Fox 11 has done to GDLA and I don’t think it will survive in the long run.
I am so proud of the way you’ve handled yourself and where you have turned your attention to. What you are doing now is MUCH more important than talking about shoes, clothes and cosmetics. Keep up the “good” work you are doing and all the best to you.
Much love from your true fan (s)
Silvia Z.
I cannot read your blogs posts about beautiful Sandra without getting tears in my eyes! God bless you for all you are doing for her. As I said before, you are truly His hand extended.
On the other note, I am so sad to hear that lovely, Jean Martirez is now gone too! As I’ve said, I haven’t watched since you left, so I didn’t know she too was gone. I always thought how good Jean was at her job! So pretty too! The new powers that be at GDLA certainly did a thorough job at ruining a good thing. It was part of my morning for many years and now it’s not.
Bless you, Dorothy, for this special care for Sandra.
re Fox: the viewer knows it is all about the money & the money comes from the sponsors…so people take a look at all the commercials and sent a letter to the CEO’s of Lexus & Verizon & all the rest….A woman HAS value !
I love reading and seeing your story with Sandra !!! I too get teary eye when I read your posts.
I am looking forward to The Good News Girls… I love your sense of humor in all the chaos that
has been going on.. I oftened wondered right after you left what you were doing .. It sounds as if you never
lost stride your grace and dignity is amazing!!!
A woman, a girl, a hand extended. A Nemo found. An answered prayer, a hand healed. These are the miracles before us, and we’re celebrating them with you and your family. As written long ago, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Well done.
Your words are moving and inspiring…and what a gift sweet Sandra is. Although I miss my favorite show, your Sandra reminds me that there is often more in the world. My morning routine never started without the show and now with all the changes I have a more productive routine.
Cheers to better days for you, Jean and even Jill…
Thanks to you and your boys. And all the Good people at MKI. Sandra is already enjoying the Happiest place on earth. Her own skin. And will do so for the rest of her long fulfilling life. Kudo’s Kiddo !
Dorothy, I love reading about Sandra’s adventure. She is a beautiful little girl and you’re both blessed to be sharing this experience with each other. I am truly sad about GDLA though. I’ve watched GDLA for 20 years. I tried to continue after you left, but without you AND Jill, I couldn’t stomach it. Steve’s just cranky, and his sidekicks can’t bring him around the way you could. Now that Jean is gone too, I’ll have to find a new early show, as well.
God Bless.
Disneyland is the happiest place on earth. Memories are made for Sandra and you! I can only imagine what went thru her mind. My kiddos first ride was always Dumbo. tradition. Oh with my mom. Sandra will take back all those memories. Good job
I feel for Jean, I knew it was something. Was up . I am glad it was not health issue. What can I say I hate ( strong word for me) what is going on. If I were you ladies well I guess just leave it at that. I am a Chiristian and God would not like the words I would use about Manager man! Lol.
I love your blog gives me my Dorothy fix.
Hugs to Sandra and here’s to a big ass glass of wine to you. You survived d land.
