More lighting.
Less filters.
It’s why I love the ladies room selfie.
The first thing I did at the Emmys was hit the bathroom.
Pat Harvey was already there.
It’s not like we force these photos.
Like sh*t…
They happen.
Saturday was the LA news Emmys.
An excuse for TV people to gather together in the ladies loo for a photo.
I was going to wear the fancy dress I wore to the Race to Erase MS.
I thought…
It’s an entirely different crowd.
Then I thought…
Instagram killed that notion.
This was Friday.
The event was Saturday.
Too late to Rent the Runway or to Revolve.
I was forced to go to a store.
Found a dress so short I almost didn’t hem it.
I do like my short skirts.
And I do like the Emmys.
But earlier that day was something I like even better.
The Mending Kids Hometown Mission.
This year 15 kids got free surgery.
In one day in LA.
It’s like a mission we do anywhere in the world.
But it’s here.
So we have more celebrities and better filters.
Gene Simmons and his family were there.
I did an interview with Gene years ago and brought one of our kids from Kenya.
Excuse the graphic detail but Victor’s system was so screwed up he peed out of a hole in his stomach.
Gene said he’d pay for the surgery.
He sent the money before we were through with the interview.
The first life of many lives he has saved.
Ryan Ochoa took time away from his music and the movie he’s shooting to fly back for the mission.
And Marcello Reyes from Modern Family is the best medicine for parents and patients.
I think charity makes you pretty.
But I still left to get hair and makeup for the Emmys.
At the Emmy’s friends asked about Jillian.
I told them her hair is growing back.
Her kids call her Millie Bobby Brown.
Millie Bobby Jill.
Jillian finished treatmen on Friday.
On Saturday Mr G won an Emmy for an important story on our Vets.
He found flies in the operating room at the VA.
Flies and fly traps.
In the OR.
With Mending Kids I’ve been to some of the poorest places in the world.
I’ve been in operating rooms in Africa, Asia and the Amazon Jungle of Peru.
I’ve never seen a fly in the operating room.
I’m proud Mr G told that story.
I’m thrilled Jill finished radiation.
And that 15 kids are mended.
And of course…
I’m always happy to find a bathroom with good lighting.
In this photo I’m looking off to the side.
So I’m still in search of the perfect bathroom selfie.
