Surgery went well. Recovery is hell. Barf, rinse, repeat. Actually barf, rinse, eat, repeat. Then sleep. But it’s only been a day. And we do have our friends Shark Boy y Lava Girl. Dora, Tylenol y Codeine to help us through.
She is such a beautiful child. Now wearing a cast that is half the size of her. For two weeks my El Salvadorain Giget will have to hang up her boogie board. I’m worried she’ll be bored The word for Sand in Spanish is arena. I call her Arena Rita. My Playa Chica.
I was endeavoring to explain Endeavor to her. I felt like Herve Villechaize. De plane, De plane. You know Herve died the day of wedding. Not sure how (or why) I remember that.
So just a brief update while my patient is sleeping. And for those of you who say Im a Saint…didn’t you see I stole the child’s lolipop? I’m no Saint. I did this because I love my charity Mending Kids. And now this kid is really mending me…
And oh I did find one thing she can eat…lollipops (good thing i saved her a few).
I was thinking of you two this morning. Sandra is getting quite the exposure to LA – CNN…the Endeavor….Nash!
I didn’t call you a saint…. I called you an angel…and hey you saved her a few lolipops… I wish you the best…. Sandra is on her way now! Maybe the codeine is making her sick… That shit is nasty…
You are an Angel and so is your little Chiquita! And I am glad she is mending you…. From what I read lately from you your life seems so much better and richer since leaving GDLA. I barely watch anymore….it makes my eyes bleed
It just isn’t the same, but you are and thank goodness for that.
Dorothy, I have never wrote anything, I didn’t want to be that weird fan but I’m a southern California native, 45 year old mom of two, and I watched gdla for the whole run. I really like you and watched because of you! Thanks for sharing this personal journey! I really enjoy reading your blog. It is so true that when god closes one door it’s because he’s got bigger and better things behind the next one! He has blessed you in ways you’d never get from gdla.
From you one wine drinking Presbyterian to another,
PRAISE GOD : )
Well I think you are a pretty awesome lady!!! God Bless you and youirs…
I am so glad she I’d doing better. Day by day. Having 10 grandkiddos ( yes I am a child bride) lol they bounce back quick. The Tylenol with codiene made one if my darlings sick. I was thinking of you guys when the shuttle flew by. What a experience! My daughter had her class and my grandkiddos watching in Anaheim. Ok point here! I was wondering what Sandra thought. Thru the eyes of kids are amazing. Enjoy your weekend! Hope Lava girl yep we watch that too is good! Everything is better with wine lol
Well, Kriskristin just said everything I was planning to say, except I am a 67 year old mom of two, grandma of three, great-grandma of two, native southern Californian who watched gdla from the beginning because of YOU! I quit when you did, and my mornings are a lot more productive.
I am loving little Sandra vicariously through you. She has the sweetest face and I wish she could know how many of us are praying for her and loving her. Keep up the wonderful work, Dorothy. Oh, and I LOVE your blog. I am also wondering if the Tylenol and codeine is the culprit with the barfing. Codeine has that unwelcome effect on me too. Poor baby. Hang in there.
Thank you. Thank you. All of you for playing Doctor on my blog. I think it was the codeine making Sandra sick. I guesscwe’ll know at breakfast. Xo
Try popsicles they work wonders! So happy your healing. There is nothing like a child to make you put everything intoperspective.
Rhonda
Hey Dorothy, Hey Sandra,
I’m so glad things are coming along well. I love your comment that she is mending you as well. Kids have a way of doing that. It’s unanimous, you are an angel! You do have a halo and it is visible to others. You’re doing great work and it defines you just as we saw you from the beginning. Codeine is way too strong for a child’s system I think ( at any dosage). Teri is righ, your life does appear to be more rewarding and meaningful. Maybe it has something to do with being happy! You seem happy. . . . You’re blessed. . .
Ms. Dorothy-
The week you left, I felt so betrayed and hurt. I too have watched from the beginning and do not watch the show anymore, it’s just not the same. I love your blog, you are entertaining and inspiring. I am so happy for you and all you are doing now and so glad you are mending. I am still bitter that you are not on my once favorite show, but I look forward to good things for you!
Cheers to your little Angel and happy days!
Dorothy – I am chiming in along with the others! I love reading your blog and am so glad that you have Sandra taking care of YOU
Sure miss you on GDLA – I finally switched to KTLA and GMA . Keep writing!
De plane! de plane! lol im miss your humor. although i find your humor a little bit darker now. maybe because on air you couldnt swear like on here lol. do miss seeing your face:) have to say you might not be a saint, well done. you have a good heart. you could be selfish by not doing anything with your free time,$ and huge house and resources but you are helping someone in need. thats great! keep up the saint like work! im so glade you help someone from the latine community and not from africa like its the trendiest thing to do. we have lots of poverty to the south of us. our neighbors. thank you for not forgetting about us:)
