Why was the guy throwing knives? I think Sandra thought I was trying to kill her on the way to the airport. But it was just dinner at Benihana. She seemed unsure why onions were on fire and knives were flying.
We practically flew to the airport. No traffic and no flat tire (like when I first picked her up there).
She kept asking me ”estas triste?” Are you sad? Do I look sad in this last airport photo? OK maybe a little.
I tried to pack a life time of California fun and sun into her last two days.
We went to the Santa Monica Pier to ride the rides. Yes this is the same child who threw up every time she rode in my car. When we were packing she handed me some medicine, Anti nausea medicine. Her Mom sent it because she always throws up on the bus (they don’t own a car.). So after cleaning up many an upchuck I was like chica NOW you show me! After being so homesick (and car sick) she became such a California girl. Lucky she left before I took her for highlights.
We had a little good-bye party.
And sent her home with a scooter (what me spoil her?) and 99 other pounds of clothes, photos and lollipops. She insisted on taking every seashell collected and her new collection of Barbie videos (it’s actually hard for me to write this without Barbie in Spanish is the background). I sent her Mom a letter saying Sandra was loved by many people (and dogs) in Calfornia. Poor Leche is lonely.
And of course she has that last memory of a guy throwing knives….
Dorothy….such a lovely person….what an exciting summer you had with Sandra…you both look like angels in that last goodbye pic! I am sure Sandra will treasure these memories…. Will she be ack for a 2ns surgery?
Hi Dorothy. don’t be sad, she will be back and I have no doubt you will be in touch. The house is going to be empty and quiet so you just need to sleep in for a day or two, relax and then enjoy Dorothy. My Mom also used to tell me that life is downhill after 40 and seriously that was a pretty stupid thing to tell her daughters, (sorry mom) Life truly began for me at 40 and I had a blast. Just enjoy and don’t think about the age.
Hugs
Dorothy, you are Awesome!! I think you need a little girl )

Isn’t it interesting and ironic how one door closes and another really opens…You probably would have never had the time to devote to hear and show her how to be a “Cali Girl” had you still been with GDLA..
You are doing great things Dorothy–I have enjoyed reading your blogs. I am your age and often times have been mistaken as you–a compliment to me! In this town it is hard to swallow that after 40 its all downhill…i saw Bullshit to that! The best is unfolding..
Cannot wait to hear about what your are diving into next. Keep up the great work!
