I fear my dimples are on the wrong cheeks. Really my ass should look better. I thought I was running my butt off. Sandra wanted to learn to ride a bike. She got going alright. But the whole stopping part was a problem. I was her fall back (OH GOD, DON’T FALL BACK. The idea of Mending Kids is to mend them) brake system. I also taught her how to drink whipped cream from a can. I’m sure one of those skills will come in handy.
I lost one pound on my wheat free diet. Guess drinking (wheat free) whipped cream doesn’t help. But I had to show her a few times. It’s the teacher in me. Her Mommy may wonder why Sandra repeatedly says “All The Single Ladies”. I taught her some Beyonce too. Between that and The Bachelor I ruined the kid.
Actually (this is the love letter part) Sandra is now a part of our family. I will miss making her chocolate milk at midnight (and I wondered why she’d never go to sleep). I will miss her racing through the house chasing Nash, the dog, the cat and occassionally the turtle. I may even miss hiding in the bathroom to get a second alone. I’d shut door and she’d still be telling me something (in Spanish so I’d get maybe half of it).
Such a brave girl. To come to this counrty. To live with (crazy) people she didn’t know. To have two surgeries.
I’m checking my phone every 2 seconds to see if she got home alright. I know we’ll talk (awkwardly cause my Spanish still sucks) on the phone. She will need to know who Sean picks. BTW she thinks Catherine is going home.
Sandra is home! I just got the call.
Now a little bit of my heart now lives in El Salvador. But I know she will be back. They don’t have cans of whipped cream in her home town. And she’s frickin’ addicted to it…
What a sweet and generous and rewarding experience you had with her!

You are an Angel and Sandra will always be in your heart and all of us who have followed your journey.
People come and go in our lives but few leave footprints on our heart as she has done.
Blessings and hugs as you dry your tears
Vickie
God Bless you in what you did to this girl life. You open a world that Sandra will always remember. God Bless you Sandy
D,
You helped give Sandra two beautiful hands, and she gave you her heart. That’s a fair trade in anyone’s book. I hope she can come visit you–her second mommy– and Nash and David often….never say never!
I know a little something about being a second mommy, and it doesn’t mean you love your kids any less.
I hope you can whip up those golden memories of your time together just by closing your eyes and smiling. Use this time between visits to perfect your dimples….and your Spanish, so you don’t miss a word when Sandra comes to visit! Thanks for being someone we can all look up to. God delights in you today, so try not to be too sad!
That’s a lovely post Deborah…:)
Deborah is lovely. You all are. Thank you for the comments and the love. xo DL

Job well done! I don’t know you, but I am impressed. Now I know why you got fired from TV. You are way too nice a person to be working in TV News.
