I have a girl crush.
Of course there’s Angelina Jolie.
But she’s a bit FROZEN for me.
Very Ice Princessy.
My big crush is on a blonde.
That “Eat, Pray, Love” chick…Elizabeth Gilbert.
I think my husband is aware of this.
Especially since Sunday I turned on Oprah instead of him.
On Super Soul Sunday I was in bed with Oprah, Liz Gilbert and coffee with too much French vanilla coffee mate.
It was Drink, Pray, Lovely.
Back when I did that TV thing… I made an ass out of myself in front of Liz.
I’ve met many famous people.
But only seem to make an ass out of myself in front of the ones I truly love.
I was in awe of Oprah the first time we met.
So long ago I wonder if Oprah would remember this day.
We were both in NY covering the cast of Dynasty at Bloomingdale’s.
Oprah came in from Chicago.
If I remember right she wore a fur coat (see how long ago).
She nicely cut in front of me to get her credential.
I remembered thinking she’s going to be a star.
But most stars don’t intimate me.
Well, there was Paul McCartney
First time I met him I was standing in a long and winding road waiting to interview him.
When the reporter in front on me was done she passed me and said ”he’s an ass”.
I timidly sat my ass down next to him.
He was lovely.
I never knew what was up the reporters butt.
But back to Liz.
And me being an ass.
I asked the producers of that show I used to do if we could have her on.
They said no.
Why enlighten people?
So I went to her book signing in Malibu.
And stood in line with all the other blondes.
I had to meet the chick who wrote the chick lit Bible.
I got all geeky.
Got that way around Pat Conroy too. He’s the guy who wrote my favorite novel “Prince of Tides”.
Hi, I’m Dorothy.
I’m an author geek.
My friend said why don’t you ask Liz to be on your show.
I think Liz was thinking this geeky girl is on TV?
I asked.
Her people said she had a rash and didn’t want to do TV.
Liz…was this true?
Eventually Liz did come on Good Day LA.
Sure hope we didn’t enlighten anyone.
On Sunday Liz told Oprah that she tries to bring light to every situation.
I’ve finally seen the light.
I’m learning what matters.
I was on that show for what? Almost 20 years?
I’m a slow learner.
My big regret is that on TV… I spoke mostly about crap.
More Pitt- Jolie than faith, hope or charity.
But look at Angelina.
She went from crazy to saintly.
I’m trying to do that too.
With a little inspiration from both of my girl crushes…
Dorthy,
You are truly my girl crush!! You are so sweet, kind and a great example of humility. May God bless you and your family. I miss you in the morning but LOVE to read ur blogs.
I’ve had a Girl Crush… and I know your gonna say “Give me a Break”, but Dorothy… it’s You…laugh all you want, but I can honestly say my Crush on you has been well over a good 15 years now…lol
I dought you remember this from sooo long ago,but back on your earlier “Good Day L.A.” days, when You,Steve, and Jill read Faxes on the Air, I took a chance and sent one in and Steve read and surprised and caught you off guard which read something to the degree of “Dorothy Lucey is one of the Sexiest Women on Television”…
Which you followed with a “Oh yeah right” comment. Steve then finished reading the fax saying it was my Birthday and asked you for a Happy Birthday shout out…AND YOU DID!! You even did a Marilyn Monroe Happy Birthday Impression for Me.
I swear, for like the next 4 days or so, you had me as giddy as a school girl…heck,I couldn’t stop smiling for atleast half that work day after you did that for me.
So I just wanted to tell you, from over 15 years ago till today and beyond… 1.) Thank you with all of my heart for that wonderful moment in my life… and 2.) Not to Upset your Husband, but still to this day are one of the Sexiest Women on Television and Beyond to Me! Wink lol
Take Care and God Bless Beautiful…
Jack Engberg ( Long Beach,Ca )
I’m blushing!
Well Stop it… cause now i’m blushing darn it… lol
Giddy is feeling has returned and thank goodness i’m alone at the moment and only have my cat judging me from across the room. Lol
Thank you, I needed this, just can’t go out in public for awhile… Being almost 6ft.8in. and giggling like this just can’t be a pretty sight. ![]()
Your Amazing and i’ll always be one of your #1 fans for life.
Truely.
Hi Dorothy,
I enjoyed watching you and never thought you reported crap in your early days. But in the last few years I can tell that you did not enjoy talking about people. I listed to the radio show and you sound wonderful. Your voice is happy talking about Mending Kids. I think you found your love of radio. I too watched Oprah with Elizabeth Gilbert and she was wonderful. I loved the part where she said that she pushed all the doubt, fears and etc away and put them away in your heart and you will be ok. She was awesome. I am looking for work and my attitude has changed on how I do interviews. Hopefully I will shine in front of the other people. Of course it is a rough time to find a job but My attitude has changed.
Kathi
Shine! And thank you.
Dear Dortothy
You are too,too hard on yourself. You are doing so much for the children of the world . The photo of you coloring with that little girl is so heartwarming. Please stop comparing yourself to Angalina Jolie or Opran
They have staffs of hundreds. You are making a big difference all by yourself. I am one who misses you on
Tv, you did speak of your church and your religious beliefs along with no many other important issues.
It was not all fluff. People like you are our unsung heros. I admire you.
Sincerely
Vickie
That photo was taken at one of my favorite moments in my life! Thank you.
Dorothy,
Where were you on this picture and, my wife wants to know, were you wearing socks with those boots or were you going “commando?”
Keep up the great work,
Andre
In Africa. My luggage got lost on the way to Ethiopia (4 flights). So no socks! And I wore the boots for four days.
Dear One,
Life is full of so many fabulous flavors….hard news, catwalks, true scoops, and pure fluff. They’re all under the glass and waiting to be scooped out and relished thoroughly on any given day. You’ve never been one to limit yourself to just one flavor of coffee mate, and there’s no reason to limit yourself to one kind of journalism—or even one medium of journalism.
I love that you’re branching out to include radio hosting. We need a voice like yours in this industry: a voice of compassion, caring, cutting humor and charisma. May radio welcome you with open arms!
I hope you dish out the kind of content you find valuable and uplifting, because we’re sorely in need of it, sister. But don’t kick yourself for indulging in a bit of celebrity coverage from time to time. After all, what’s a chocolate sundae without a touch of marshmallow fluff on top? (not to mention a few nuts.)
By the way, I too, went to see MY girl crush at that same Malibu book signing. Liz Gilbert had me breathless….I hung on every word. Almost got a rash. Had I known you were there, too, we could have clung to each other for support. And then gone out for ice cream. With fluff.
You are such a good friend. And I just love you. Truly, madly deeply.
Knew it. I should have been a lesbian…
