Here’s something you don’t know about me.
Let me preface this by saying…
It’s not all THAT interesting…
But I’ve got this weird thing with redheads.
It’s not a fetish.
That might be fascinating.
It’s just…
In kindergarten there was Patty.
A redhead.
A blonde boy named Christopher used to chase us.
And kiss us.
We called him Chris Kissing Booth.
Pretty sure we both slapped him.
In college we called my roommate Red.
Some boys kissed us.
I don’t recall slapping them.
Red is still one of my best friends.
I have one cousin.
Just one.
She’s a redhead.
My husband married a redhead.
I was a strawberry blonde back then.
A redhead wanna be.
Now my hiking buddies are redheads.
And soap stars.
Since I used to be a gossip reporter…
You know I got to name drop.
I hike with Tracey Bregman (The Young & The Restless) and Jackie Zeman (General Hospital).
I once interviewed Jackie.
And knew we’d be friends.
It took 20 years and her moving down the street from me.
But we became friendly.
Met Tracey when Nash was a baby.
I think we met at a playdate.
I think Pamela Anderson was there too.
Not name dropping.
Just showing how hot the Malibu Mom group got.
These days Tracey, Jackie and I like to hike.
We pick a day.
Cancel on each other a couple of times.
And finally just do it.
We invite other “blondes” (my real hair color is-if I can remember- dog poop brown) and brunettes.
But often it’s just the 3 of us.
It’s therapy.
While working the booty.
Last week I talked endlessly about losing a friend.
My beautiful girlfriend died suddenly.
I could not break free from my funk.
The redheads told me about a book called The Magic.
By the woman who wrote The Secret.
Here’s a secret… I thought that stuff was bullshit.
But I got the book.
I can save you the cost of the book (you can thank me later).
It’s about gratitude
Just be thankful.
For anything.
For everything.
Write down what you are thankful for.
The more you are thankful for…
The more you will have to be thankful for.
It’s like a facelift for your attitude.
It’s working for me.
I’m thankful for friends and family.
For Jackie and Tracey.
For all my redheads.
I’m thankful for the book that made me so thankful.
This is getting repetitive.
You may be thankful It’s ending.
I warned you it wasn’t all THAT fascinating..
But I’m thankful for this blog.
I love writing it.
And I’m thankful you read it.
Thank you!
I have to blog about my Mom.

Thank you for the blog. I too lost a dear friend in Jume. I miss him everyday, he was my adopted brother. Died too soon at 67. I’m grateful for having him in my life but so sad and wonder why he was taken so soon . I do try to be grateful for the sunshine in my life but it is very difficult and I guess I just have to keep trying.

So sorry.
Try writing a list of what you loved about him.
Gratitude and appreciation are helping me.

Thank you for enlightenment
Hi Dorothy!
Thank you for the blog and your story!! I have a coworker that lost her best friend on Halloween. Details are just so said horrific and very tragic. I am going to go buy this book for her today and one for me as well! It is so true we can get wrapped up in the negative and forget to be thankful for some many things. We are so blessed in so many ways no matter what the situation in our life. Thanks again!!! Alisa
Thnx Dot,
Love all your blogs, I need to catch up on some….when does your ‘name dropping’ book come out? I love Tracey & Jacklyn as well and have enjoyed meeting all of you at different events. I’m still working thru the tragic loss of a friend, being grateful and thankful are the keys! See you on Twitter….xoxo
And You do it just fine (brown hair and all)
Love your Blogs/Therapy
Love your Mendingkids
Your integrity shows
And I envy the Redheads
Who call you Friend
Too bad its Bad things that
Make us live more fully
yours, Snow
So funny Dorothy! Hahaha.
Hey Dots,, it’s RED…
I remember my first college roommate describing this wonton, hussy, jessabelle, who was stealing her boyfriend while she was attempting to steal mine….
And yet when I met you I thought.. I like her much better than you ( my roommate) and you said I think we will be friends and we have been since we were 19…You were my Maid of Honor and I was yours and when my daughter had cancer and you didn’t even know if your “maid of dishonor” was going to be able to attend the wedding you flew out here to be with me… during the busiest time of your life…
And then I got to host the baby shower ( with Harvey Levin and Jane- VM…name dropping but it was fun!) And when I lost my husband who was there for me and my children..you and Nash and David and so I am so grateful for you …. OH and those Malibu Moms… I really think ISIS wouldn’t stand a chance against these women… they are a force and I am grateful for their grace…xoxoxo love you !
Someday I’ll blog about those college days…
