I didn’t see Bieber.
But I did see his car.
It looks like aluminum foil.
Like a shit ton of aluminum foil.
Did I say shit ton?
I’ve been spending too much time with teenagers.
A bunch of teens saw Bieber in Malibu.
They posted a shit ton (sorry) of Snapchats.
Bieber was at the Malibu Chili Cook Off.
There really isn’t much chili.
It’s more like the Wine off.
There’s wine…
And carnival rides.
And paparazzi.
I saw them chasing Kourtney Kardashian.
The stampede went past a place called Parent Drop Off.
Better known as…
The wine tent.
I remembered explaining paparazzi to my son at the Chili Cook Off.
He was five.
He asked why the blonde lady threw a water bottle at the man with the camera.
I said “Charlize Theron is a famous actress.
She doesn’t want the man taking her picture.”
Nash asked “Would she still be famous if no one took her photo?”
He’s always been smarter than me.
I have smart kids in my class at Chapman University.
I’m teaching Intro to Broadcasting.
One of my students got naked in a You Tube video and asked Miley Cyrus to his prom.
It went viral.
He’s been on every TV show I know.
Not sure how much I have to teach them.
But they did ask about 9/11.
About how you handle being on live TV…
When the sky is falling.
I will forever remember sitting on the set.
Seeing people jump.
Seeing the towers fall.
Trying to talk.
Trying not to cry.
I thought of the last time I had been in the towers.
It was my birthday.
We had dinner at Windows on The World.
That was the restaurant in the North Tower.
On the 107th floor.
When I was leaving a man said to me…
“I know you from TV.
You’re Roz Abrams.”
Roz and I have different skin colors.
But he seemed so happy.
I said…
“Yes I am.
So nice to meet you.”
And left the North Tower for the last time.
I didn’t bore my students with that story.
But I did advise them to avoid words like shit in everyday conversation…
This way they are less likely to say them on live TV.
Especially if the sky is falling.
They say “Yes Professor Lucey.”
Professor Lucey…so pompous.
But I like it.
It’s more rewarding than talking about Bieber on TV.
Having said that…
Bieber just did a small concert for the kids who lost parents on 9/11.
He’s not exactly Angelina Jolie…
But just when you think he’s a punk driving pimped out tin foil.
He makes 9/11 a little better for some kids.
Leave it to Bieber.
Love you.
