The sign says Happy Hour…
7am to 6pm.
That’s a bit too happy for me.
But I did have a midday Margarita.
It was supposed to be skinny.
But it tasted like a Slurpee and came in a Big Gulp cup.
Tabasco is the beach bar with the 11 hour happy hour.
There’s another tacky bar in town we like called Happy Endings…
I got a 75 minute massage on the beach.
It cost 25 dollars.
That’s my kind of happy ending.
I begin each day paddleboarding.
One morning I got stopped by a Navy patrol boat.
A boat with lights and sirens.
What are you going to do…charge me with paddling?
They gave me warning.
But I had no idea what they said.
They make you wear a life jacket while you paddle.
Maybe the Navy was warning me not to take it off for a selfie.
Me?
Selfie?
One morning I paddled out to the arch.
By Lovers Beach.
Next to Divorce Beach
And Lawyers Beach.
It’s a secluded spot between the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific.
Years ago David and I took a boat to Lovers Beach.
There was one other couple on the beach.
We got in the water…
The guy popped up next to me.
He wore a snorkel mask so it took me a moment to realize I knew him.
I worked with him.
He said…
I’m not sure you knew…
But my wife & I are separating.
I looked toward the sand and saw one of our interns.
Of all the beaches in all the world…
We swam into his.
This time I only saw seals.
And rebel that I am…
I took off my life jacket for a photo.
That’s as wild as my spring break got.
We were down there with some actual spring breakers…
My son & his girlfriend.
I tried to not be helicopter mom.
Jet ski mom is more fun.
But now we’re home.
I’m back to my low carb diet.
No more salsa and chips.
And I miss my midday Margarita.
